I Longed for Shade. Shade is a relief. Cool and dark, Shelter from the beating sun. If there is no water Then at least shade. After all, God even provided shade To Jonah While he waited in his wasteland. Searching the horizon for God’s burning wrath On the reckless city. (After the whale, the preaching, and the weeping) Jonah, the truth is I really can relate. I run, I hide, and sometimes I think God’s grace Seems gentler in another place. (God’s rescues sometimes feel like getting hurled onto a shore.)
